2023 WR Jamaal Shaw gets emotional after getting Texas offer
Ahead of the start of spring ball, there are some pieces falling into place as to the configuration of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas only has one commit in the 2023 class at the moment, which came back in early November with four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson.
If you look a little bit deeper, though, you will find some important action to watch on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2023 class of late. Going all the way back to the Junior Elite Day last month, a multitude of key cogs could be getting put into place to ensure that this 2023 class rounds out as one of the highest-ranked classes in the nation.
That includes plenty of new offers getting sent out in the last month or so. One of those important offers that went out of late for Sark and the Longhorns staff to a target of the 2023 class went to the rising 6-foot-1 and 180-pound West Orange-Stark (TX) athlete/wide receiver Jamaal Shaw. Texas officially sent an offer Shaw’s way on Feb. 16, making him one of the more recent prospects to watch for the 2023 class emerging on the Longhorns’ radar.
The offer from Texas football reportedly got 2023 WR/ATH Jamaal Shaw emotional

Although, it looks like it was the reaction that followed the aforementioned Texas offer from Shaw that is so noteworthy. According to a report from Horns247 on Feb. 23 (paid content), Shaw got pretty emotional when he figured out he was getting this Texas offer.
He reportedly “almost cried” upon receiving the Texas offer. Shaw also noted that Texas is his “dream school”. Thus, this reaction makes sense for the in-state product.
Jamaal’s brother, and former 2015 Texas commit Johnny Shaw, has ties to this program dating back to the mid-2010s. Eventual Louisiana Tech Bulldogs safety commit Jo. Shaw was originally recruited by Texas when Mack Brown as the head coach of this program. Yet, he would de-commit from Texas once Brown was replaced by Charlie Strong as head coach following the 2013 season.
Moreover, Ja. Shaw’s stock is on the rise of late. More than half of the eight schools that offered him thus far sent their offers his way within the last six weeks. That includes schools like the TCU Horned Frogs, Houston Cougars, Mizzou Tigers, and Texas.
Ja. Shaw is one of more than a dozen athletes that Texas has offered to join their 2023 class. He would be the 20th if he is classified as a true wide receiver prospect.
