Earlier this week, we see the newly formed United States Football League put together their rosters for their inaugural season, a process that featured some notable former Texas football players. There were a few Texas Exes picked up during the festivities of the 2022 USFL Draft in the last week or so.

Four former Longhorns players were picked up throughout the 2022 USFL Draft, giving them an opportunity to try and rejuvenate their professional football careers. It’s also exciting to see some notable former Longhorns players participating in the inaugural season of a football league that shares the name of one of the most successful NFL alternatives from the last 50 years.

Eight teams will compete in the new USFL in the first season of play. This is one of the more notable alternative professional football leagues to come about in the last few years. A few other alternatives that are now defunct that tried to compete with the NFL lately were the Alliance of American Football (AAF) and XFL.

Both the AAF and XFL lasted only one year. And while each league certainly provided for some highlights and entertaining moments, neither was able to last at all. In fact, the AAF didn’t even make it through the entirety of its first season of play back in 2019.

Moreover, the 2022 USFL Draft was a pretty structured event where certain rounds had restrictions as to which positions teams could pick. The first round was a quarterback-only round. Then, rounds two through four were set aside for defensive ends/edge rushers, and so on.

With the 2022 USFL Draft now in the books, here’s a look into the four former Longhorns players that were picked during the festivities this week.
