In the second part of a three-game weekend series for head coach David Pierce and No. 1 ranked Texas baseball, the Alabama Crimson Tide will be looking to exact revenge for a 1-0 loss at Disch-Falk Field on Feb. 25. Texas topped Alabama by a narrow run-one margin in a win at the Disch in the first game of this weekend series.

That game saw Pierce and the Longhorns get another solid pitching performance from starter Pete Hansen. In the second game in this weekend series, the Longhorns will give the call on the mound to the redshirt senior right-hander Tristan Stevens.

In his first start of the season, Stevens gave the Longhorns six shutout innings on the mound with three strikeouts and four hits allowed in a Feb. 19 win over the Rice Owls. Stevens can win the 18th game of his career if he gets the decision in his favor against Alabama this weekend.

The last time Stevens lost a regular season start was back on May 8, 2021, against the TCU Horned Frogs.

Alabama is giving the start to junior right-hander Antoine Jean. The only start of the season so far for Jean resulted in no-decision. He also comes into this one with a 4.50 earned run average.

This is an opportunity for the Longhorns to start separating themselves as the top contender in the country early on this season. Texas played two close games since the midweek series finale against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.

The last two games for Texas each resulted in one run wins that could’ve gone to either team.

Moreover, if Texas tops the Crimson Tide in the second game of this three-game weekend series, they will move their record all-time to 9-1 over Alabama.
