Anthony James, DL/EDGE

A prospect that still seemingly remains on the radar of the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the offseason is the Texas A&M commit and the touted four-star Wylie East edge rusher/defensive end Anthony James. While it is more than a full calendar year now that James remained committed to head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies, Texas appears to still be making a big push with him.

The 6-foot-5 and 245-pound gifted defensive end could reportedly be on campus for a visit with the Texas staff as soon as this weekend. It sounds like this could be a done deal with James to be visiting Texas this weekend too.

This is good news for Texas, as they’re trying to establish a foothold on some of the top in-state defensive line talent at this point of the cycle. Texas could really help themselves in accomplishing that mission if they can continue to make the right impression with James.

Moreover, this is yet another example of Davis putting in good work on the recruiting trail with his position group. This is Davis that deserves the credit for helping Texas make the progress that they apparently have of late with James.

It does seem like James is still keeping his options open for the most part, despite his longstanding commitment to the Aggies. He took an unofficial visit with the Michigan Wolverines last fall. And there are four offers that came his way since mid-December. The TCU Horned Frogs, Michigan State Spartans, and Miami are some recent programs trying to make a big push in this recruitment.
