With one game remaining for the regular season for No. 21 ranked Texas basketball and head coach Chris Beard, this team is looking to enter the postseason on a high note. But it won’t come easy for Beard’s team to round out the regular season slate with a win. Texas will face head coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks on the road on March 5 in the regular season finale.
Considering some of the struggles Beard and the Longhorns faced on the road this season against ranked opponents, it doesn’t look like Texas has an easy road ahead this coming weekend.
Yet, Texas still has a lot on the line in the regular season finale and the Big 12 Tournament. Texas is likely fighting not only for their second straight Big 12 Tournament crown this year, but also a high single-digit seed in the NCAA Tournament.
At the moment, the Longhorns are looking like a five or six-seed in the NCAA Tournament. It would be nice to see them at least get a top-four seed on Selection Sunday, though.
One of the most recent Bracketology updates came from CBS Sports on March 3. CBS Sports currently projects Beard and the Longhorns as a five-seed in the West Region. That would put the Longhorns up against the 12-seed that wins the West Region play-in game. And this round of Bracketology from CBS Sports has the Florida Gators and VCU Rams duking it out for positioning as the 12-seed in the West Region eventually facing the Longhorns in the Round of 64.

Moreover, it does look like the Longhorns’ floor at the moment is a five or a six-seed. For context, CBS Sports projects the Iowa State Cyclones still as a six-seed, despite an embarrassing double-digit loss at home at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys where they scored just 36 points on March 2.
For Texas to make the jump to the four-seed, they would likely need to beat Kansas and get at least one win in the Big 12 Tournament. Even beating the Jayhawks this weekend and losing in their first game in the Big 12 Tournament could have this team challenging for a four-seed on Selection Sunday.
Texas takes a record of 21-9 (10-7 Big 12) following their 68-61 loss to the No. 3 ranked Baylor Bears in the final game ever for this program at the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns and Jayhawks are set to square off in the regular season finale for both teams on March 5 at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, KS, with tip-off time set for 3 p.m. CT.
