Texas has the guards to prove that Kansas is vulnerable on the perimeter

One of the stronger points of this Longhorns team at the outset of the Big 12 slate was the guard play at the top of the backcourt unit. Texas saw the trio of senior guard Marcus Carr, senior guard Courtney Ramey, and redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones get off to a solid start at the outset of Big 12 play.

But one of those three has really struggled to find any sort of consistency of late. Ramey is actually now on an eight-game streak without scoring in double figures. That is a problematic trend for one of Texas’ most important leaders.

Although, that still leaves the duo of Jones and Carr that have mostly played well throughout the latter stages of the Big 12 slate. Carr has most of the offensive pressure on his shoulders game in and game out. He’s also played in the most minutes of any Longhorns player so far this season.

Meanwhile, Jones might be the most underrated player for Beard and the Longhorns during the regular season.

Carr was a key cog in showing some of the weaknesses of the backcourt unit for the Jayhawks in Texas’ three-point win over Kansas last month. In that early February win over Kansas, Carr registered 10 points on a tough night shooting from the field. But he didn’t make many mistakes otherwise while getting two steals and forcing multiple other turnovers.

Jones can also be an important defensive piece for the Longhorns in this game as he is one of the most underrated and versatile perimeter/wing defenders in the Big 12.
