Texas Basketball: 3 reasons the Longhorns will upset Kansas
Timmy Allen goes to work to dominate in the paint
While it does hurt Beard and the Longhorns that this team looks to continue to be missing the former UMass Minutemen star sophomore transfer center Tre Mitchell, there are other players ready to step up in this frontcourt unit. We saw the senior forward duo of Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop step up in the last few games.
Bishop was solid for the Longhorns in their 68-61 loss to Baylor earlier this week. He gave the Longhorns 13 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks in his first double-double of the season.
It’s also important to not forget about the productivity for Bishop on the offensive glass in Texas’ win over Kansas last month. He had a whopping season-high seven offensive rebounds against Kansas the first time around this season.
In their win over Kanas last month, Allen had one of his best games of the season so far. He put up two-dozen points, nine rebounds, one assist, no steals, one block, and just one turnover, on well over 50 percent shooting from the field. A similar performance from Allen this weekend would go a long way to help Texas put Kansas on upset alert.
Texas can take advantage of the fact that there are more question marks concerning the depth that Kansas brings to the table in the frontcourt than they have on the wing or in the backcourt. Despite the absence of Mitchell, Texas has tough forwards/bigs ready to go such as Brock Cunningham, Dylan Disu, Bishop, and Allen.
