Entering an important spring camp for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program later this month, there will be a number of position battles to watch. Texas did have some position battles to figure out on the two-deep depth chart in spring ball last offseason. But this round of spring camp feels more crucial for Sark and his staff in 2022.

Sark and the Longhorns staff will also have a number of new faces to work into the program again this offseason. That was certainly the case last offseason. But with all of the roster attrition the Longhorns already experienced in the first few months of this offseason, it will be fun to watch how this depth chart is configured in the weeks and months ahead.

QB Hudson Card leads the transfer portal watch for Texas football entering spring camp

There aren’t many position groups that will be settled for Sark and the Longhorns entering spring ball. That is outside of some of the skill positions, namely at running back and wide receiver.

Moreover, while it would be easy to get lost in the biggest position battle of spring ball (at quarterback), the fans can’t lose sight of all that Texas has to figure out on the defensive side of the ball. The Texas defense and the offensive line were definitely weaker points for this team throughout Big 12 play last fall.

If Texas can upgrade the offensive line and the defense in 2022, this team should be able to be a big mover up the Big 12 standings this coming season.

With all of that in mind, here’s a look into three Longhorns players that could still be on transfer watch if they lose position battles in spring camp.
