I do want to mention before getting into this part of the list that I do think one of the most underrated and productive players along the defensive line for the Longhorns is the rising senior defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.

But the fact of the matter is that there are going to be some major shakeups along the defensive line for the Longhorns this offseason. Something clearly needs to give for Texas along the defensive front in 2022. And there could wind up being some casualties that aren’t really fair to the players that line this defensive front.

With all the incoming talent Texas has along the defensive front, upperclassmen that are already in backup roles could be facing a tough road ahead this offseason. Sweat is one of those upperclassmen that will be fighting just to maintain his backup role throughout spring and fall camp.

He’ll be battling with the likes of Alfred Collins, Keondre Coburn, Jaray Bledsoe, Byron Murphy, Barryn Sorrell, and Vernon Broughton, depending on where he plays this fall.

In all likelihood, Sweat will be the backup nose tackle on the two-deep entering spring camp behind the rising senior Coburn. But you have to consider Murphy a real threat to pass up Sweat on the two-deep given the flashes he showed last season.

Sweat is just too good for him to be third on the nose tackle depth chart for the Longhorns. If he does move further down the depth chart as this offseason chugs along, watch out for him to seek another landing spot by way of the transfer portal.
