Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are actually off to a better start with the 2024 Texas football recruiting class than they are with the 2023 class. Texas has landed two blue-chip defensive back commits in the 2024 class. Meanwhile, Texas only has one commit in the 2023 class at the moment with the likes of four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson.

That could mean that Sark and the Longhorns staff find some real potency in the 2024 class. Texas is making it a priority to get a strong presence at the quarterback position in both the 2023 and 2024 classes.

But one of the quarterbacks that the Longhorns are really prioritizing for their 2024 class doesn’t look to be trending in their direction of late. The touted four-star Chandler (AZ) quarterback Dylan Raiola looks to now have some other top schools in mind compared to Texas.

Texas football reportedly lagging behind USC and Ohio State for 4-Star 2024 QB Dylan Raiola

Part of the reason for that is likely the fact that Raiola moved from Texas to Arizona not too long ago. That brings him closer to the former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans as this recruiting cycle moves along.

Moreover, according to a report from 247Sports on March 6 (paid content), the top two schools at this moment in the race to land a commitment out of Raiola appears to be the Ohio State Buckeyes and USC. Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes and Riley and the Trojans found a lot of traction on the recruiting trail of late with Raiola, leading to their emerging as two of the top schools to watch for him right now.

There are still some other schools to watch in the recruitment of Raiola right now too. You can’t discount the likes of the Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, and Nebraska Cornhuskers in the race to land a commitment from Raiola.

He’s got various connections to each of those schools that should keep them in the running in his recruitment.

Texas is also a school that is hanging around in this recruitment up to this point. Although, it doesn’t look like Texas is making as much headway as some of the competing schools with them on the recruiting trail with Raiola such as Ohio State, USC, Oregon, etc.

As of the night of March 6, Raiola is one of just two quarterbacks that have received a scholarship offer from the Longhorns for the 2024 class. The other is rising four-star Carlsbad quarterback Julian Sayin.
