As we draw closer to the start of spring ball for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program in the month of March, there are going to be some workouts and hype that appear on social media. Winter workouts just concluded for Texas a few weeks ahead of the start of spring camp.

And one of the more interesting recent emergences around the Longhorns football faithful is all of the videos and numbers appearing concerning the players so far in workouts. That includes a report from Inside Texas on March 7 (part of the On3 Network, paid content) that indicates who the fastest player on the team could be in the midst of the offseason.

This IT report mentions the fact that the Longhorns players were measured by speed in miles per hour in workouts earlier this offseason. And the fastest Longhorns player that timed in this offseason was the former four-star recruit and breakout star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though. It’s clear that Texas had a true speedster and rising star in the receiving corps thanks to his standout efforts last fall from Worthy. He showed off that true track speed on multiple occasions during his true freshman campaign.

Moreover, this IT report also noted the fact that the rising redshirt junior wide receiver Jordan Whittington rang in as the second-fastest player on the team. Others such as incoming freshman running back Jaydon Blue and senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison were also noted as some of the five or six fastest players on the team early in the offseason.

Worthy did run track in high school and was clocked in with a 10.55-second 100-meter time as only a sophomore. That is pretty insane.

What will be really interesting to see is how the likes of the incoming freshman wideout Brenen Thompson compares in terms of flat-out track speed alongside Worthy. We’ve seen Thompson run blazing 100-meter times faster than that of the 10.55-second time Worthy posted in high school.

Texas is going to have a ton of speed in the receiving corps this fall with the trio of Thompson, Whittington, and Worthy leading the way. There will also be a true threat on the outside in the receiving corps this fall with the addition of the former Wyoming Cowboys transfer redshirt freshman wideout Isaiah Neyor.
