5-Star RB Rueben Owens visiting Texas with Arch Manning
The spring visit season has officially opened up for the 2023 and 2024 Texas football recruiting classes this month as second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff already hosted a few important targets on campus since last week. Texas will continue to see some high-profile visitors on campus through the end of the month and on into April too.
The most notable target that will be visiting is also the clear-cut top priority for Sark and the Longhorns 2023 class. The elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning is set to make his way to the Forty Acres on March 24. And that is looking to become the same weekend where the Longhorns staff is likely to be hosting their top running back target in the 2023 class.
According to a report from Horns247 on March 7 (paid content), Texas is looking to host both Manning the five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens in the same visit weekend on March 24. This is not officially confirmed yet, but it sounds like this will be the first visit that Owens makes to Texas in 2022 in all likelihood.
Texas football looking to get 5-Star QB Arch Manning and RB Rueben Owens visiting on the same weekend
It makes sense that the Longhorns would get Owens to campus the same weekend in the midst of the start of spring ball that they’re also hosting Manning. Getting two of the top skill position targets of the Longhorns 2023 class on campus during the same weekend when the energy is buzzing around the start of spring camp lines up nicely for Sark and his staff.
Moreover, while this would be the first visit in more than a few months for Owens to Austin, it sounds like that trend will be reversing soon. Owens could reportedly be in Austin at least a few times during the spring between visiting the Longhorns and high school track meets.
It is still important to note, though, that former Texas commit Owens is starting to see a group of top schools emerge in the race to land his commitment. Texas is going to have a battle on their hands with the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs and Texas A&M Aggies to eventually try and get a re-commitment from Owens.
A factor that can definitely help the Longhorns get a re-commitment from Owens is building a foundation around the 2023 class with a pledge from the Louisiana native Manning. It would be very tempting for Owens to join the Longhorns if Manning is committed to Texas.
The spring is really shaping up to be one of the most important markers on the 2022 recruiting calendar for Sark and the Longhorns staff. And I must say that Sark and his staff are doing a fantastic job on the recruiting trail and in the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason. Texas is in a good position on the trail with a number of their top targets for the 2023 and 2024 classes.
And there is still some momentum remaining on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns following a tremendous wrap-up to a top five-ranked 2022 signing class in the country. Texas just needs to keep this momentum rolling through the spring to really get the 2023 class going.
