3 March visitors that can help Texas land 5-Star QB Arch Manning
Rueben Owens, RB
The top running back target for the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the offseason is the former Texas commit and the elite five-star El Campo product Rueben Owens. Texas once held the commitment of Owens for a few months last offseason as the initial commit in their 2023 class before he would eventually re-open his recruitment during the summer.
Texas is now in the thick of a big-time battle with a few other schools, namely Georgia and Texas A&M, in the race to land a commitment from Owens.
It won’t be easy for Texas to try and get a lead in the recruitment of Owens over the likes of Georgia and Texas A&M either. Georgia really made a lot of progress in building their relationship with Owens late last year as he took multiple visits to Athens.
Moreover, the next major shot that Texas will get to make a good impression on Owens is set to come very soon. Owens is set to visit the Forty Acres on multiple occasions this spring, including in back-to-back weekends around the Manning visit later this month.
Getting Owens and Manning on campus together during the same big visit weekend could have an untold impact on the Longhorns 2023 class when it’s all said and done. Commitments from these two have program-changing implications. And that type of energy circulating around the Longhorns program should do nothing but good things for the 2023 class.
Texas is very much still in this race to land a commitment from Owens. But they can’t slip up during this huge opportunity they have to make up any ground that Georgia might’ve taken from them last fall. This spring is really Texas’ opportunity to shine in terms of the top schools pursuing Owens at the moment.
