There are some critical weeks ahead on the trail for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class. Texas is set to have some big-time visitors on campus in the next few weeks as the spring visit season is about to kick into high gear.

It also looks like there are some new forecasts and predictions coming in of late indicating that the quiet period on the recruiting trail could soon be coming to an end for Sark and the Longhorns 2023 class. And one of the most important predictions to note concerning the Longhorns 2023 class of late has to do with one of the highest-rated defensive linemen that currently holds a Texas offer for this cycle.

Four-star Tascosa (TX) defensive lineman Avion Carter was one of the most highly-touted defensive line targets for the Longhorns since last offseason for their 2023 class. And it now looks like Carter is starting to trend firmly in favor of the Longhorns heading into the spring.

The latest expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction for Carter projects his commitment to land with the Longhorns. That most recent Crystal Ball Prediction has fairly high confidence in favor of Texas and was placed on the morning of March 9.

And the On3 recruiting prediction machine actually has the Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders with equal chances percentage-wise to land the commitment of Carter. The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Texas and Texas Tech each a 41.5 percent chance to land the commitment of Carter.

Texas does look to hold most of the momentum right now in the recruitment of Carter. A successful visit last fall could result in more momentum in favor of the Longhorns this spring.

The next step for Texas at this point of his recruitment will be to continue to make a great impression with Carter and his camp when he’s expected to visit later this month. He’s likely going to visit on the weekend of March 26 right now, which is the same that Texas is hosting the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning.

Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis continues to do great work on the recruiting trail building relationships with top blue-chip targets such as Carter. And you can’t doubt that Texas has to be considered as one of the top couple of schools at the moment in the race to land a commitment from Carter.

As of the morning of March 10, Texas holds just one commitment in their 2023 class with the touted four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson. But that is likely to change soon with a big spring visit season ahead for the Longhorns.
