I usually like to include one potential transfer portal target on these lists that goes to prove a bigger point of who the Longhorns should be seeking out at any one point in time during the offseason.

And at the moment, there looks to be a plethora of defensive back talent available in the portal that is largely flying under the radar. This is definitely something that Texas should be taking advantage of given their lack of certainty of the bodies they currently have in the defensive backfield.

This is why it would make a lot of sense for the Longhorns to go after the former standout Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders redshirt freshman cornerback Quincy Riley. Texas would do well to add an instant impact cornerback if they could nab an underrated DB out of the portal such as Riley.

As an SEC-caliber defensive back with an NFL ceiling, Riley would be a fantastic addition to a budding secondary for the Longhorns that already has a lot of talent. What they don’t have right now is an immediate difference-maker that will still have three years of eligibility remaining entering the 2022 season.

Moreover, some of the schools that look to be involved in the pursuit of a commitment from Riley out of the portal right now are the Louisville Cardinals, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and West Virginia, among others.

But Texas could still make a positive impression and a good pitch to Riley if they sent him an offer in the near future. As a cornerback that registered 15 pass breakups and seven interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown) in the last couple of seasons, Riley is the type of player the Longhorns should be chomping at the bit to win over.
