Heading into spring camp, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program will be breaking in a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball. A lot of change was expected for Sark this offseason. And that is certainly the case for Texas this offseason as this coaching staff already added some big names out of the NCAA Transfer Portal in the last few months.

Sark and the Longhorns added the likes of the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers, Ohio State redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts, Wyoming Cowboys redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, and Alabama Crimson Tide junior tight end Jahleel Billingsley.

More additions are likely to be on the way soon too for Sark and the Longhorns staff out of the transfer portal.

Forgotten Texas football players to watch this spring

Roster attrition was a big part of the theme of this offseason in general so far on the Forty Acres. The poor results on the field last fall are a big reason for that.

Moreover, Texas is looking to start righting the ship in 2022 after the disappointing 2021 campaign, which is a process that will largely begin during spring camp. With the first spring practice set to start on March 22, the beginning of drills is now almost exactly one week away.

While Texas will need some new faces rise to the occasion throughout the offseason, returning players will be key too. And that will be an emerging theme to watch in spring ball with so much attention being dominated by the roster attrition so far this offseason.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three forgotten Longhorns players that are bound to step up in spring ball.
