A former blue-chip wide receiver recruit that was a common pick among Longhorns fans to be a breakout candidate for last season was sophomore Troy Omeire. But it didn’t take long for fans to have that hope shot down after the news came down that Omeire would miss the entirety of the 2021 season due to a knee injury.

Last season was also the second straight that Omeire missed due to knee injury issues.

It seems like if Omeire can avoid the knee injuries that plagued him over the course of the last two years he could start to realize the immense potential we saw from the flashes he showed in camp since 2020. The highlight reel for Omeire is something that gets Longhorns fans really excited about his future on the Forty Acres.

The problem is, though, that he has started to get buried on the wide receiver depth chart after missing so much time during the first two years of his collegiate career. Omeire was sidelined last season as the former four-star recruit and breakout freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy became the clear-cut go-to target in the passing game for the Longhorns.

And he will now be facing an uphill battle to ever get starting reps this fall after Texas added the former Wyoming stud Neyor out of the transfer portal last month.

However, the addition of Neyor to the receiving corps could actually be a blessing in disguise for Omeire. With Neyor likely to be the starting outside receiver for the Longhorns this fall, Omeire will have plenty of time to go through a patient rehab process and ensure he’s healthy and ready to go when he actually hits the field this fall.

Spring ball will be a really important step for Omeire. If he does well this spring, he could get on the right path to establishing himself as one of the sleepers to watch in this receiving corps again in 2022.
