The next addition for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class arrived on the evening of March 15. Texas got their second commit in the 2023 class by landing a pledge from the rising and potent four-star C.E. King (TX) defensive lineman Dylan Spencer.

Sark and the Longhorns staff are building out a solid foundation in the 2023 class on the defensive side of the ball. This now makes it two blue-chip commits in the Longhorns 2023 class, both playing on defense, to start out this cycle.

The other commit in the 2023 class is the touted four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson.

Moreover, landing both Spencer and Johnson in the 2023 class now puts Texas as the only Big 12 program that only has blue-chip commits in the mix.

Texas seems to be starting to catch a wave of momentum on the recruiting trail at a good time with spring ball about to start in a week. With the start of spring ball for the Longhorns next week comes the start of the highly anticipated visit season. Texas is set to host a couple-dozen key blue-chips in Austin that are targets of the 2023 class.

Knowing that Texas now has commitments from both Johnson and Spencer in the 2023 class will help build that much more excitement for this group heading into the spring visit season.

With that in mind, here’s a look into a prediction of who the next commit could be for the Longhorns 2023 class after landing Spencer this week.
