Avion Carter, DL

Another potential defensive line commit in the making could be coming for the Longhorns 2023 class in the spring with the rising interest from the talented four-star Tascosa product Avion Carter. Texas looks to have the momentum right now with Carter. But they’ll need to continue to make the right impression with Carter heading into the spring if they want this momentum to keep in the weeks and months ahead.

There is clearly a lot of mutual interest between the Longhorns and Carter dating back to last fall. Texas did well to try and get ahead of some of the competition among top schools in the race to land a commitment from Carter during the winter.

Texas could be starting to separate themselves from the likes of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, TCU, and LSU Tigers.

Granted, I wouldn’t expect the likes of head coach Dave Aranda and the Bears and/or new head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders to let up with Carter anytime soon.

The lone expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction for Carter right now projects his commitment to land with Texas. And the On3 recruiting prediction machine has Texas and Texas Tech tied in terms of percentage chances among the leaders to get the pledge of Carter.

With all the impressive moves that defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns made on the recruiting trail of late pursuing this position group, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see them pull this one off with Carter over Texas Tech.
