Rueben Owens, RB

Some great news emerged of late for new running backs coach Tashard Choice, Sark, and the Longhorns in the recruitment of the former Texas commit and elite five-star El Campo product Rueben Owens in the last week or so. Texas appears to be trending to be in a position to get a re-commitment from the uber-talented in-state product.

Each of the six expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Owens placed in the last 12 months project his commitment to land with Texas. That includes a few of the most recent Crystal Ball Predictions that were put in over the course of the last four days.

Texas also started trending in the right direction with Owens once again with the On3 recruiting prediction machine. The Longhorns now have better than an 87 percent chance to eventually land the commitment of Owens per the On3 RPM over the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies and Georgia Bulldogs.

But the spring will be absolutely critical for Texas in the recruitment of Owens. Texas is likely to get the chance to host Owens on multiple visits to Austin before the summer arrives. He’s also set to visit Texas later this month, on the same weekend that the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning is set to be on campus.

While Texas definitely has some renewed momentum in the recruitment of Owens, I want to emphasize that his decision timeline could still be rather drawn out. This could still turn into a rather patient recruitment when it’s all said and done. Georgia and Texas A&M are far from down in the count in the race to land a commitment from Owens.
