Texas QB Quinn Ewers puts pinpoint accuracy on display
In less than one week, spring practice will officially begin for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. Texas is set to begin spring camp on March 22, and the spring football game is set to take place on April 23. That means that some of the new additions to the program, such as the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers, will soon be getting official practice reps for the first time wearing the burnt orange.
Sark and the Longhorns staff have a lot of important tasks to tackle in spring ball. And that remains the case on the recruiting trail and pursuing key targets in the NCAA Transfer Portal to.
One of the biggest looming tasks for the Longhorns in spring ball is figuring out which direction the quarterback competition will go between Ewers and rising junior Hudson Card.
But most indicators are pointing to the former Texas commit and elite five-star recruit Ewers winning the job for this fall. And with some of the highlights we’re seeing from Ewers entering the spring, he’s not doing much to leave any doubt that he should win the starting job this offseason.
Texas football freshman QB Quinn Ewers puts on a show in a recent practice video
In a post on his Twitter timeline on March 14, Weiss High School coach Brett Morgan showed us some video of Ewers throwing to his son and Central Missouri wide receiver commit Price Morgan. In this roughly minute-long video, we can see Ewers hitting Morgan with precision, mostly running routes to the sideline.
This still goes to show the insane arm talent that Ewers brings to the table. That is also likely to be something that is put on display throughout spring practice and the spring game in the weeks ahead.
Texas has to be chomping at the bit to finally see what Ewers can do with all of the talented offensive weapons surrounding him on this Longhorns’ offense. That process will start in spring camp.
Moreover, most of what we’ve heard coming from the Longhorns’ side shows that Ewers is making a positive impression right away since arriving on the Forty Acres a couple of months ago.
Ewers is one of four key transfer portal additions for the Longhorns entering spring ball. More could be on the way in the near future. For now, though, Texas fans will be gearing up to see new transfer additions participate in spring ball such as Ewers, former Wyoming Cowboys redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, and Alabama Crimson Tide junior tight end Jahleel Billingsley.
While there is going to be a quarterback competition by a technicality in spring ball, it feels like something will be wrong if Ewers is not the Week 1 starter this fall. But he’ll have to start proving his value in that regard in the next few weeks.
