In a weird turn of events this week ahead of the matchup between the six-seed Texas basketball and the 11-seed Virginia Tech Hokies in the Round of 64, athletic director Chris del Conte wound up hitching a ride with some people he didn’t know apparently last week. The Texas AD looked like he was very delayed on flights out of Austin, TX, to Milwaukee, WI, to make it to the Round of 64 game on March 18.

Per CDC’s tweets, he had a couple of days of flight delays out of the Austin airport. It looks like if he wanted to make it up to Milwaukee for the tip-off between Texas and Virginia Tech on the afternoon of March 18, he was going to have to get a ride with some Longhorns fans.

Thus, CDC apparently hitched a ride with some other Longhorns fans up to Milwaukee. He provided some commentary along the way through the trip up the heart of America. CDC tweeted that the road trip would be 17 hours up I-35.

And as of the morning of March 18, it looks like CDC is still on his way up to Milwaukee with the Longhorns fans he is riding up with. By the looks of it, the other Longhorns fans that CDC road-tripped with up to Wisconsin were “Wheels and Hodges”.

On the first stop for a break on the road trip up to Wisconsin, CDC and Co. stopped in Lincoln, NB, the home of the University of Nebraska. And then, they got right back on the road on the morning of March 18 to be able to make it up to Milwaukee in time for the meeting between Texas and Virginia Tech.

We will continue to watch what happens on this road trip for the Texas AD and the Longhorns fans that graciously gave him a ride with them up to Milwaukee.

This is definitely one of the most interesting occurrences ahead of an NCAA Tournament game for the Longhorns administration we’ve seen in quite a while. But you have to give Wheels and Hodges props for getting the Texas AD up to Milwaukee and providing a lot of entertainment along the way.

Next. What to expect from Virginia Tech in the Round of 64. dark

You can follow along with CDC, Wheels, and Hodges in their road trip from Austin up to Milwaukee on the Texas AD’s Twitter timeline. But it looks like they are getting pretty close to Milwaukee at this point.

Tip-off time between Texas and Virginia Tech is set for 3:30 p.m. CT on March 18 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
