Left guard

Starter: Junior Angilau

Backup: Hayden Conner

Texas is going to have to improve along the offensive line if this offense wants to make some strides as a whole in 2022. And that improvement will largely start with the Longhorns having someone that can anchor this offensive line on the inside on a consistent basis this year.

The most likely candidate to be that anchor on the inside for Texas in 2022 is the rising senior offensive guard Junior Angilau. As the linemen with the most snaps under his belt returning for the Longhorns in 2022, Angilau will be a key cog for this group.

Behind Angilau playing at left guard is likely going to be the rising sophomore Hayden Conner. In all likelihood, this will be Angilau’s final year playing for Texas, which could then slot Conner as the starter in waiting in 2023.

Right guard

Starter: Devon Campbell*

Backup: Hayden Conner

Right guard will be one of the more hotly contested position battles in spring ball for the Longhorns. This competition at right guard is likely going to take place in the spring between the incoming freshman and former five-star recruit Devon Campbell and Conner.

Depending on where you look, some will project Campbell as the starter here and some will project Conner. This position battle might have to wait until fall camp to truly be decided.

For the time being, though, we’re going with Campbell as the projected starter due to the fact that he looks ready to make an immediate impact as the highest-rated signee in the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class.

Center

Starter: Jake Majors

Backup: Logan Parr

The center position should be mostly set for the Longhorns entering spring camp. Rising redshirt sophomore center Jake Majors made some strides as the starter at this spot throughout most of last season. He deserves a clear shot to be the starter here again for Week 1 this year.

Yet, it is still worth watching what sophomore Logan Parr is able to do in terms of his progress in camp this offseason. Parr did put on some size last year, up to around 300-pounds now. But he still has fewer than 50 career snaps under his belt at center.
