X-Wide receiver

Starter: Xavier Worthy

Backup: Troy Omeire

This is one of the easier parts of the two-deep depth chart for the Longhorns to figure out heading into spring ball. Rising sophomore star wide receiver Xavier Worthy is going to be the starter at the X spot this year.

As one of the best young skill position players in the Big 12, if not the entire country, Texas is going to heavily rely on the production of Worthy this year.

An interesting facet to this offseason could play out at the X-wide receiver spot, though. Texas is hoping to see redshirt sophomore wideout Troy Omeire finally make his college debut this fall. Omeire will need a solid run in summer workouts and fall camp to make that happen.

Omeire is more than talented enough to get regular work in the receiving corps this year and be a solid backup for Worthy at the X spot.

H-Wide receiver

Starter: Jordan Whittington

Backup: Kelvontay Dixon

H-wide receiver is likely to be another one of the deeper position groups for Texas on the offensive side of the ball this year. Spearheaded with the talented and elusive redshirt junior wide receiver Jordan Whittington, this spot in the receiving corps is pretty much set for Texas heading into spring ball.

It goes without saying that Whittington is the de facto starter at the H-wideout spot if he remains healthy this season. And the good news in that regard is the fact that Whittington had the healthiest season yet in his collegiate career during the 2021 campaign. Hopefully that trend continues to hold and Whittington has another consistent and healthy campaign again in 2022.

Backing up Whittington should be the former four-star recruit and redshirt sophomore wideout Kelvontay Dixon. Having shown flashes in the last season and a half, Dixon is certainly a sleeper name to watch at wideout this season.

Z-Wide receiver

Starter: Isaiah Neyor

Backup: Jaden Alexis

While it looks like the starter on the outside for the Longhorns this year is set to be the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman transfer wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, this spot in the receiving corps should still be paid attention to this offseason. That’s largely due to the fact that the backup spot at the Z is anything but decided.

Texas does return senior wideout Marcus Washington, who is likely to start spring camp as the backup on the two-deep. But if Texas can get a solid run from the former blue-chip recruit and redshirt freshman Jaden Alexis in spring camp, I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps Washington on the depth chart for the rest of the year.
