In the midst of a three-game weekend series against the Incarnate Word Cardinals, head coach David Pierce and No. 2 ranked Texas baseball look to be getting back on track. Texas was in a tough spot at the beginning of this week following three straight losses at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks and the College of Charleston.

There was also a point in time when the Longhorns were facing The Citadel on March 16 where the team was reeling early on. Texas was down by a few runs at the outset of that one-game midweek series on the road against The Citadel.

Yet, the bats would come alive later on in that meeting with The Citadel. And that offensive explosion has remained for Pierce and the Longhorns through the first two games of this weekend series at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field against UIW.

The Longhorns scored a whopping 29 runs combined through the first two games of this weekend series against UIW. Texas scored 19 of those runs in a dominant 19-2 win over the Cardinals on the night of March 18.

And then, the hot bats continued for the Longhorns against UIW on the afternoon/evening of March 19. Texas put up their third straight double-digit run outing against the Cardinals in the second game of this weekend series.

Texas baseball dominates UIW again on March 19 behind Tristan Stevens and Eric Kennedy

The Longhorns downed the Cardinals on March 19 by the final score of 10-2 behind a solid seven-inning effort on the mound from the stud redshirt senior right-hander Tristan Stevens. In seven innings of work, Stevens only let up two earned runs, seven hits, no walks, and had two strikeouts.

This game definitely saw Stevens get back on track after notching his first loss of the season against the Gamecocks last weekend. Statistically speaking, Stevens is one of the best pitchers in the Big 12 through this point of the season.

Texas also got a nice offensive boost in this game largely thanks to the production of the redshirt junior outfielder Eric Kennedy. In this eight-run win over UIW, Kennedy gave Texas four earned runs on three hits, along with one run scored.

Kennedy, Ivan Melendez, and Trey Faltine combined for eight of the Longhorns’ dozen hits on the day, four runs, and six runs batted in. They were a force to be reckoned with in this one.

This win over UIW moves the Longhorns’ record on the season so far to 16-5. This weekend series finale will round out between Texas and UIW at the Disch on March 20, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT.
