Andrew Jones leads a hot outside shooting wing/backcourt rotation into the Round of 32

The most valuable player for the Longhorns in their Round of 64 win over the Hokies was the former elite five-star recruit and redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones. With one of the best performances of his career in maybe the brightest spotlight to date for him, Jones was an insane sharpshooter from deep.

In the win over Virginia Tech on March 18, Jones came up with a game-high 21 points for the Longhorns on an insanely efficient 7-of-11 shooting from the field, 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Jones was also almost as good on the defensive end of the floor as he was shooting the ball on offense.

When Jones is playing this efficient two-way basketball the way he has in a handful of games this season, he’s nearly impossible for any team to deal with. And when Jones is playing this way, it really opens things up for other key offensive weapons for Beard and the Longhorns.

Expect the likes of senior guard Courtney Ramey and sharpshooting senior two-guard/wing Jase Febres to have a big game against the Boilermakers if Jones is hot again in the Round of 32.

We’ll see if Jones is able to come even close to replicating this type of performance against the Boilermakers on March 20. If he does, Texas will have a great shot at pulling off the upset.
