CB1

Starter: D’Shawn Jamison

Backup: Jamier Johnson

One of the cornerback spots is definitely solidified for Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns heading into spring ball. Returning super-senior corner D’Shawn Jamison will continue to be one of the mainstays in this secondary in 2022.

Jamison looked to become one of the best corners in the Big 12 last season as a true playmaker in pass coverage and on special teams. But he had a rather disappointing season by his usual standard. Jamison only had one pass breakup and had his lowest-graded season in pass coverage since his freshman campaign.

Behind Jamison on the two-deep is likely to be either incoming freshman four-star recruit Terrance Brooks or the fellow former four-star recruit and rising sophomore Jamier Johnson. Brooks and Johnson should be interchangeable as backup corners this year.

CB2

Starter: Ryan Watts

Backup: Terrance Brooks

At the other cornerback spot, expect the former Ohio State Buckeyes redshirt freshman transfer Ryan Watts to be the favorite to win the starting job. Watts is really the only other proven cornerback Texas has in the two-deep among the four players listed here.

Nonetheless, Watts showed to be a plenty capable cover corner during his bits and pieces of two seasons playing with the Buckeyes. He’s going to be one of the more vital players in the defensive backfield this year.

Backing up Watts should be the other of Brooks and/or Johnson, depending on who is backing up Jamison at the other corner spot.
