The highly anticipated first day of spring practice came and went for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program on March 22. Texas got to work on March 22 with a number of new faces on each side of the ball and some important returning players on the first day of spring drills.

There’s a large number of overarching storylines to touch on in the first week of spring practice for Sark and the Longhorns. A good place to start lies with what Sark had to say on the first day of spring ball and how he feels about how this first practice went.

What looks to be a key point of emphasis for Sark and the Longhorns in spring ball this offseason is bringing the energy, fundamentals, and leadership to a different level compared to last year. Energy and leadership are two obvious key points of emphasis for the Longhorns this season.

And if leadership and energy are in place for Texas this year, this team is more than talented enough to have the fundamentals come along in due time.

Leadership is something that will be really important to come to the forefront for the Longhorns in 2022. There seemed to be a real lack of leadership, and thus energy, on both sides of the ball throughout Big 12 play last season.

Sark mentioned some names in particular in terms of those players he expects to step up in new leadership roles in spring ball. There were also some names mentioned in a discussion on The Horn 104.9 this week that could stick out among rising leaders in spring ball.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three Longhorns players that Sark and his staff are expecting to step up in leadership roles this spring.
