There won’t be many more anticipated appearances in spring games around the college football landscape this year than the freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers with the Longhorns next month. The former Ohio State Buckeyes elite five-star recruit and one-time Texas commit is the player that all Longhorns fans are waiting to see coming out of spring practice.

It sounds like Ewers is off to a good start through the early portion of his offseason on the Forty Acres. All accounts signify a good first spring practice for him. And it looks like he was starting to adjust well in his initial weeks with the program during winter workouts in January and early February.

This is good to hear that Ewers was on point in practice his first day at the helm for spring ball. It sounds like Ewers realistically did about as well as he could do on the first day of spring ball.

The only thing I would have to say to counter that is the fact that it still sounds like it’s taking some time for Ewers to fully make the transition to settling in with the new playbook and inner-workings of Sark’s offense.

That was a qualm that Ohio State seemed to have with Ewers when he was playing for the Buckeyes at just 17 years old last year.

Granted, fans should also be realistic about how long it will take for Ewers to adjust in this new role as the favorite to win the Texas starting quarterback job. He’s going to have a few weeks to settle into this new offense as spring drills run their course.

All in all, the very fact that we’re hearing good things about the arm talent and the adjustments that Ewers made to joining this quarterback room so far this offseason is great. Early indications are definitely pointing to Ewers making some necessary strides in spring camp.
