A busy week for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and this staff on the Forty Acres is about to turn into a busy weekend on the trail for Texas football recruiting. Texas is set to have their first major visit weekend coming up in the next few days with some huge names set to make their way to campus for the festivities.

Among those set to visit this week for Sark and the Longhorns staff are elite targets of the 2023 recruiting class such as five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens and five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Those two will headline more than 20 key visitors that are set to make their way to the University of Texas for the coming weekend.

Yet, the visitor weekend for the Longhorns took a hit for the second major point on the spring visit season timeline. Owens was originally looking to visit Texas two weekends in a row at the end of this month and on the first weekend of April.

While it looks like Owens is still set to visit Texas this coming weekend, he’s now got other plans for the first weekend of April.

According to a report from Inside Texas on March 22 (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Owens will now take a visit with the Syracuse Orange on the weekend of April 2 instead of visiting Texas for two weekends in a row.

Moreover, this news is somewhat of a hit to the visitor list for Texas for the first weekend of April. But this doesn’t mean that the interest between Texas and Owens is declining in any way.

Owens is one of the top-ranked running back prospects in the country. And thus, he’s going to have a plethora of options as to where he can visit throughout the spring and summer.

This coming weekend is still going to be huge for the Longhorns to keep making progress with a former commit in their 2023 class and one of the top overall targets for this recruiting cycle.

Texas is looking to really get the momentum rolling on the recruiting trail for the 2023 and 2024 classes this spring. And that could continue during this important visit weekend coming up. Owens will be an important part of getting that done this spring.

After landing a commitment from the highly touted four-star C.E. King defensive lineman Dylan Spencer last week, Texas now has two pledges in the 2023 class.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2023 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 25 in the nation and fifth in the Big 12.
