Spring is set to be an important time on the trail for the 2023 and 2024 Texas football recruiting classes. A number of key visit weekends are coming up during the spring recruiting season for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.

Sark and the Longhorns staff have a couple of commits each in the 2023 and 2024 classes entering the spring visit season. And given the lengthy visitor lists that the Longhorns have slated in the next month or so, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Texas add more commits in these two classes before too long.

Moreover, Texas has put together a solid run on the recruiting trail so far, especially for their 2024 class. The 2023 class is taking shape a little slower than the 2024 class, but that is largely due to the fact that Texas is getting a really early jump non that recruiting cycle.

Texas already holds commitments from two blue-chip recruits in their 2024 class. The two commits in the mix right now are a pair of four-star defensive backs in the Aledo product Jaden Allen and Daingerfield’s Aeryn Hampton.

Allen was the first commit in the Longhorns 2024 class as he gave his pledge back in late December 2021. And then, Texas landed the former Baylor Bears commit Hampton when he gave his pledge back on Feb. 14, 2022.

Holding commitments from multiple recruits in the 2024 class makes the Longhorns one of just four schools in the country to do so at this moment. Texas is also the only Big 12 program that holds multiple commits in their 2024 class.

In fact, the only other Big 12 program that even has one 2024 commit is Texas Tech.

Texas obviously is going to hold a prominent spot in the recruiting rankings for the 2024 cycle if they’re one of only four programs that have multiple commitments right now. But this still goes to show how good of a start Sark and the Longhorns staff are off to for the 2024 cycle.

According to the Rivals 2024 Team Rankings, Texas’ 2024 class ranks at No. 2 in the nation only behind the Florida State Seminoles.

Texas also holds the highest average commit rating of the four schools that have multiple commitments for the 2024 cycle.

Sark and the Longhorns staff are truly are off to a great start for the 2024 recruiting cycle. There’s no doubting the potential that the Longhorns 2024 class has, especially on the defensive side of the ball with the foundation built with Hampton and Allen thus far.

All four of the commits that the Longhorns hold in the 2023 and 2024 classes are blue-chip defensive prospects. Texas is really starting to build a foundation for a bright future on the defensive side of the ball with some of the early indications showing in the next two recruiting classes.
