Entering the second day of spring practice this week for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program, we’re getting closer to the time when this team will be putting on the full pads for drills for the first time. Texas had their first official spring practice on the morning of March 22, so drills are about to be in full swing.

There’s a lot of buzz in the air as the Longhorns get spring camp underway. Fans are getting to hear from the coaching staff and players on a regular basis for the first time since the conclusion of last season.

And one key Longhorns player on the defensive side of the ball, returning senior nose tackle Keondre Coburn, had an interesting interview with Orangebloods he did this week where he mentioned some nuggets worth noting.

Senior Texas football NT Keondre Coburn has high marks for freshman DL Justice Finkley in spring ball

Coburn discussed quite a few topics with Orangebloods this week, including the addition of the former TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson to this coaching staff and some of the new players arriving on campus for spring ball. One player, in particular, he spoke highly of in this interview with Orangebloods was incoming freshman and former four-star defensive lineman recruit Justice Finkley.

Coburn mentioned how impressive Finkley is looking in workouts and practice thus far since arriving on the Forty Acres a few months ago. He essentially said that Finkley is making a positive impression on his new teammates and coaches right away. Coburn also specifically noted that Finkley is “very, very strong”, referring to what he’s shown in drills and weightlifting so far this offseason.

It’s good to hear that an upperclassman as proven and experienced as Coburn is speaking highly of an incoming freshman this early on in the offseason such as Finkley. This likely bodes well for what’s to come for Pete Kwiatkowski and defensive line coach Bo Davis from this incoming freshmen class in 2022 and beyond.

Finkley was one of the highest-rated signees in the Longhorns 2022 class. He looks like he could be one of the early enrollees for the Longhorns from the 2022 recruiting class that is very capable of making an immediate impact this fall.
