3 analysts Texas could hire with David Cutcliffe off the market
At one point in time this offseason, it looked like the Texas football program was potentially closing in on yet another big splash hire among their off-the-field staff. Former longtime Duke Blue Devils head coach David Cutcliffe looked to at least have some communication and traction with second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his Texas staff.
Yet, that didn’t really amount to anything in terms of adding Cutcliffe to the Longhorns staff as he officially found his next role after retiring from his previous post at Duke a few months ago.
Cutcliffe is reportedly set to become a special assistant to the commissioner for football relations in the Southeastern Conference. It sounds like Cutcliffe will be providing assistance and advice to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on certain aspects of on-the-field competition and game management, among other things.
Other potential Texas football analyst hires with David Cutcliffe taking another role this offseason
This role makes sense for Cutcliffe as he has ties that got back multiple decades within the SEC. Most notably, he was the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels in the late 1990s and early 2000s and an offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Volunteers in the 1990s. He even coached up the former Ole Miss star quarterback and two-time Super Bowl Champion with the New York Giants Eli Manning during his time in Oxford.
Cutcliffe also coached up the one-time Super Bowl Champion and legendary quarterback Peyton Manning during his time on staff with the Vols.
Moreover, Cutcliffe joining the ranks of the administration with the SEC does mean that Texas has to look elsewhere if they have other high-profile analysts slots on the off-field staff they want to fill this offseason.
With that in mind, here’s a look into three other potential analyst hires worth considering for Sark and the Longhorns this offseason with Cutcliffe off the market.
