3 analysts Texas could hire with David Cutcliffe off the market
Casey Stangel, Vanderbilt director of football operations
If Texas wanted to go after more of a potential up-and-coming name around the college football coaching landscape, the final candidate up on the list is a very interesting one to consider. The Vanderbilt Commodores director of football operations Casey Stangel is one of the names to know among the up-and-coming stars in the college football coaching ranks.
In fact, she was named one of the “30Under30 Rising Stars” for 247Sports last year. The very fact that she made the list of the rising stars throughout all of the college football coaching ranks as recently as 2021 just goes to show how impactful Stangel was for Vanderbilt in the last couple of years.
If Sark and the Longhorns added Stangel to the off-field staff, that would likely mainly have her make an impact in terms of the culture and organization of the program internally. She assists analytically and gives guidance in certain areas of recruiting for Vandy. Those are both areas she could impact for the Longhorns.
Stangel would be able to help add another dimension to the analytical and operations staff for the Longhorns if Sark made the move to hire her this offseason. She’s thrived at every stop she’s had since her playing days with the Washington Huskies softball program. That includes a stop with the commissioner’s office with Major League Baseball a couple of years ago.
Hiring Stangel would be a different approach for Sark to take to add to the Longhorns analyst staff. But adding innovative minds such as Stangel that are up-and-coming names in the college football coaching ranks likely would be a move that has a positive impact on the program in terms of the impact on the internal operations, analytics, and recruiting.
