Xavier Worthy, WR

For this part of the list, I want to note that I do believe the rising sophomore star wide receiver Xavier Worthy would benefit more from Card as the starting quarterback early on in the 2022 season over Ewers. But as the season moves along, I do believe that is a lot greater potential in the quarterback-to-wide receiver connection between Ewers and Worthy over Card.

This is largely due to the fact that there was some chemistry between Card and Worthy last fall. With Worthy mostly working out of the slot, as Sark tried to get the ball in his hands as much as possible in the open field, the close-range accuracy of Card was able to benefit the breakthrough true freshman in 2021.

In fact, more than half of the passing touchdowns Card had last season went to Worthy. That included a passing touchdown that went for more than 50 yards in Texas’ eventual loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road last fall.

Moreover, Card was the most effective last season while he was passing between the numbers between five and a dozen yards in front of the line of scrimmage. That is a spot on the field where more than 35 percent of the production Worthy got came from last season.

Taking all of that into account, it is easy to see why Worthy could find a good rhythm early on this fall with Card behind center.

But there will come a point in time where Worthy can be more potent in the passing game with the obvious arm talent of Ewers getting him the ball over Card. I do believe Worthy could have an insanely good 2022 campaign if there is a situation where Card and Ewers are at least splitting reps in some of the early season games (possibly barring the Week 2 home matchup against the reigning National Champion runner-up Alabama Crimson Tide).

Yet, there is still a valid argument to be made that it would benefit Worthy and the entirety of the Texas offense to have one mainstay signal-caller through the upcoming season.
