As potentially the most important wide receiver target of the Longhorns 2023 class, the elite four-star DeSoto product Johntay Cook is going to be a name to watch this weekend. Getting his first visit to the Forty Acres in the last couple of months, this is going to be a key point in the recruiting timeline of Cook for the Longhorns this offseason.

It’s hard to know how many more opportunities Texas will have to make an in-person impression on Cook while he’s on campus before he announces a decision.

And while it doesn’t sound like a decision is going to come anytime soon from Cook, Texas still needs to make sure they’re staying in the thick of it in the race to land a commitment from Cook.

There was a point in time where it looked like the Longhorns were starting to take a lead in the recruitment of Cook. But that has quickly faded as it looks like Texas is now in a top group of schools that also includes the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ohio State Buckeyes, among a couple others.

It will be critical for new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion to make the right impression on Cook this weekend. This could turn into one of the more important visits on the recruiting timeline for Cook and the Longhorns this offseason.
