Colt McCoy helping Texas recruit 5-Star QB Arch Manning?
In the midst of what could turn out to be one of the biggest visit weekends of the entire offseason for the 2023 and 2024 Texas football recruiting classes, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff were busy at the conclusion of the first week of spring ball. Sark and the Texas staff hosted roughly a couple dozen of the top targets of the 2023 and 2024 classes this weekend.
And there was no more important target for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail visiting this weekend than the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Texas looks to have a ton of momentum right now in the race to land a commitment from Manning.
This weekend had a lot to do with why there is so much traction seemingly right now between Manning’s camp and the Longhorns staff. Texas was the first school to officially get Manning on the books for a visit this spring. And by most accounts, the multi-day visit for Manning in Austin went extremely well.
Legendary Texas football QB Colt McCoy spotted on campus this weekend during the visit of 5-Star QB target Arch Manning
One of the reasons why there could be so much traction between Texas and Manning at the conclusion of his weekend visit is the fact that he got connected to so many different parts of the program. Texas had some of the biggest star quarterbacks for the program in the last two decades on campus in the midst of Manning’s weekend visit.
That included the likes of Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger and the recently re-signed Arizona Cardinals backup Colt McCoy. Texas had both Ehlinger and McCoy present in the first full-pads practice of spring camp this weekend. And Ehlinger was even spotted riding the legendary golf cart around campus with Manning after the conclusion of practice on March 26.
McCoy was also spotted at the Longhorns practice on March 26. And while McCoy was never spotted in any picture with Manning during his weekend visit in Austin, the presence for these two at practice at the same time on the Forty Acres is still something to note.
If nothing else, McCoy’s presence on campus is a mere reminder of some of the best quarterbacks that donned the burnt orange in the last couple of decades for Manning. It also wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest if McCoy’s return to the Forty Acres was planned to be on the same weekend as Manning’s visit.
Texas had their first official spring practice take place on March 22. At the conclusion of the first week of spring ball, Texas now has a few practices in the books. And then, the spring football game is set to take place at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 23.
