What was likely the most impactful presence of all the former Longhorns players that were present for the festivities in spring ball and on the recruiting trail last weekend is the legendary quarterback and Arizona Cardinals veteran backup Colt McCoy. The former star Texas quarterback was spotted on campus last weekend at the first full-pads spring practice on March 26.

It’s also noted that this was very likely planned for McCoy to be at practice on the same day that Manning was on a big-time visit to the Forty Acres. This also is something that could help given the fact that it was the first full-pads practice in the burnt orange for the former elite five-star recruit and Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Getting McCoy back on campus on a day like this with this type of magnitude was a good move by the Longhorns staff. Sark would definitely be able to get the point home more effectively of what the lineage of this program means and what Manning could do on the Forty Acres with the likes of McCoy, Ehlinger, and Ewers, all present while he was visiting.

McCoy is really the last Texas quarterback to reach that true level of national prominence. He was an All-American that was also a Heisman finalist during his time playing for the Longhorns. And if not for one unfortunate injury, McCoy could also be the most recent quarterback to win a National Championship wearing the burnt orange.
