The biggest visitor that is a key target of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class on campus in Austin over the weekend was the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. As the talk of the town on the Forty Acres last weekend, Arch madness continued to reign supreme among the headlines on the recruiting trail for Texas.

Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff hosted a couple dozen key targets of their 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes over the weekend, with Arch being the headliner. Arch commanded the narrative of this first major set of weekend visitors on the Forty Acres this spring.

But that was expected since Texas likely planned out a lot of how this weekend went in terms of the other weekend visitors present with Arch and some of the former players from the program that returned to Austin simultaneously.

Moreover, one of the interesting nuggets coming out of the weekend is the fact that the decision timeline for Manning still seems to be pretty fluid. At one point early this offseason, it looked like Arch could be taking a rather patient approach to forming his decision timeline. It looked like he could be waiting it out until the fall to announce a decision.

5-Star Texas football QB target Arch Manning leaning toward a summer decision?

But a report from Inside Texas during the weekend (part of the On3 Network, paid content) indicated that Manning might be leaning toward a summer decision at this point of his recruitment. That IT report did not set the tone that this is a concrete decision timeline for Manning, though. It is likely more of a hunch.

We will know more about how the top group of schools is shaping up for Arch and how his timeline could come together once his spring visits conclude next month. Arch has visited Texas and the Georgia Bulldogs this spring. He is also set to have an important visit coming up next weekend with head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Texas get another visit with Arch before the conclusion of spring ball. And the Ole Miss Rebels and LSU Tigers are definitely still in the running to get visits from Arch at some point during the spring or summer months this offseason.

Yet, it is notable that there seems to be enough to go off of following Arch’s weekend visit to Texas to note that the timeline could be moving up. While that definitely isn’t anything concrete entering the month of April, this is a developing storyline that we will continue to monitor very closely.

Arch just wrapped up his first visit to Texas in 2022. And there should be at least one more to come before the summer visit season wraps up this offseason.

If Texas does get another visit locked in with Arch this spring or early in the summer, that should help greatly help their cause in this recruitment.
