With spring ball in full swing on the Forty Acres at this point of the offseason, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian is looking to make some headway with the Texas football program coming off a disappointing 2021 season. Texas officially began the first spring practice of this offseason on March 22.

Sark and the Longhorns are now a few practices into spring ball and there are still a lot of things we have yet to learn about this team.

That’s usually the way it goes in spring camp, though. Various positional battles, injuries, standout early enrollees, etc., tend to come to the forefront by the end of spring ball. But nothing concrete will really be decided in the month or so of spring practices for Sark and the Longhorns staff.

Most of that will have to wait until fall camp to be decided.

Which former 5-Star Texas football recruits have not lived up to the hype as of this year?

Nonetheless, spring camp does offer valuable practice reps to those Longhorns players that are still trying to make some necessary strides and/or live up to the expectations of their recruiting rankings. In the case of the current Longhorns spring roster, there are still a few players that are trying to live up to their blue-chip status as a recruit coming out of high school.

And of that group, an even smaller handful of Longhorns players are trying to live up to the billing of a five-star recruit. Spring ball could offer them an opportunity to make the needed strides to come closer to fulfilling their potential in 2022.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three former five-star recruits for the Longhorns to watch in spring ball that have yet to really live up to the hype in college.
