The most realistic portal target on this list for the Longhorns at this point of the offseason that could very well give his pledge to Texas in the near future is the former LSU Tigers redshirt freshman linebacker and former four-star recruit Josh White.

This former Cy Creek High School product was heavily recruited by the Longhorns back during the 2020 recruiting cycle. And a number of coaches on the current Texas staff were recruiting him at their previous stops. For instance, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks was the primary recruiter pursuing White out of high school when he was on staff with the Alabama Crimson Tide a few years ago.

White could add some valuable linebacker depth for the Longhorns right away if Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate are able to secure his commitment this offseason. But that will come with some stiff competition as there are a number of other Power Five programs that offered White since he originally put his name in the portal a couple of days ago.

Yet, Texas did already offer White very soon after he put his name in the portal. Texas getting in that early with White indicates a pretty high level of interest in landing his services out of the portal this offseason.

Some of the other schools pursuing White at the moment are the Miami Hurricanes, Baylor Bears, and TCU Horned Frogs, among a few others.

The one downside to Texas getting a commitment from White out of the transfer portal at some point this offseason would be the fact that he’s had limited experience during the couple of years he spent with LSU. He doesn’t even have two-dozen game reps under his belt on defense from his time at LSU. Texas would be gambling on the potential he brings to the table as a former highly touted blue-chip linebacker recruit.
