S’Maje Burrell, LB

The only non-blue-chip target of the Longhorns 2023 class on this list that is set to be visiting Texas again this weekend is the rising in-state product Burrell. And that comes with good reason as Burrell is an extremely important returning visitor that seems to have a ton of traction with the coaching staff in the last few months.

Some Longhorns fans might want to prioritize the recruitment of key defensive targets of the 2023 class such as Hill and Toviano ahead of Burrell.

But the fit between Burrell and this linebacking corps for Pete Kwiatkowski, Jeff Choate, and the Longhorns is too good to ignore. Burrell’s three-star status doesn’t matter as much as the potential for his fit in this defensive scheme. Kwiatkowski made a name for himself by developing three-star linebacker with a higher ceiling than most give credit for such as Burrell.

Moreover, it looks like all of the momentum in the race to land a commitment from Burrell at this moment lies with the Longhorns. Texas got multiple recruiting analyst forecasts of late that project Burrell’s commitment land with the Longhorns.

There’s a good chance that Texas could have their next commitment up in the 2023 class in Burrell. Most indicators are pointing to the potential for the Longhorns staff to seal the deal with Burrell before the conclusion of spring ball.
