Special assistant Gary Patterson providing Texas with ‘great clarity’
With spring ball starting up for the Texas football program last week, there is plenty of buzz surrounding this squad in the midst of an important offseason altogether. Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian needs to have a good offseason to lead into what could be a bounce-back season this fall.
Sark and the Longhorns staff have made moves so far this offseason to try and get this team moving in the right direction starting this year. That included the addition of the former TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson as a special assistant to the head coach in an off-field staff role.
Texas is getting a big addition to the staff with Patterson in terms of the impact he could have on the team in player development, game-planning, and personnel evaluation. And those are just a few of the areas that Patterson can help facilitate as a special assistant for Sark and the Longhorns this year.

It’s also becoming clear that Patterson is really getting down to work early on in his time with the Texas staff. He seems to be one of the earliest to the office each day in spring camp, if not the first one there.
And according to a report from Inside Texas on March 31 (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Patterson is “quite vocal” and helping to provide “great clarity” for Texas in spring practice. Patterson sounds like he is taking a very active role on this Texas staff, despite holding an off-field position.
Some of the early signs from Patterson in his role with this Texas staff are very encouraging. The work habits and knowledge Patterson brings to the table for the Longhorns should do nothing but help improve the results on the field this fall.

Patterson and the Longhorns began spring practice officially back on March 22. And we are now less than one month away from the spring football game, which is set to take place on April 23 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
