A nice nugget to hear on the trail for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, new running backs coach Tashard Choice, and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class came their way for this coming weekend. Apparently, Texas will actually still be getting a visit this weekend from the former elite five-star running back commit and El Campo product Rueben Owens.

Texas was originally supposed to host Owens for a visit this weekend as of early last month. But there was a point in time a couple of weeks ago where Owens decided to change his visit to see Syracuse instead of Texas.

But now, the plans seem to have changed again with Owens in fact set to visit the Forty Acres this weekend. According to a report from Inside Texas this week (part of the On3 Network, paid content), Owens has canceled his visit plans to Syracuse for this weekend and will be returning to Austin.

Texas football once again getting a visit from 5-Star RB Rueben Owens

This could wind up being one of multiple visits for Owens in Austin between the spring and summer months this offseason, which has to be considered great news for the Longhorns. Texas was gaining a ton of momentum in the race to land a commitment from Owens heading into the spring.

And him canceling his visit to Syracuse to come back to Austin on a big-time visit weekend in the next couple of days will likely help Texas’ case in this recruitment. Texas is going to be able to get a good buzz surrounding this visit weekend with so many blue-chip targets of the 2023 class on campus.

Texas currently holds two commits in their 2023 class, with the latest coming from the touted four-star C.E. King defensive lineman Dylan Spencer. But these couple of key visit weekends for the Longhorns could spark more momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class.
