Texas Football: 10 greatest head coaches all-time for the Longhorns

Throughout the history of the Texas football program, there are a number of great head coaches worth mentioning. But there’s also a forgettable group of Texas head coaches in the recent history of the program. Texas is currently going through one of the lowest points in terms of postseason success and overall success in the win column in the last 10 years of any decade-long stretch in program history.

The hope now is, though, that second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian is the right guy to right the ship for the Longhorns as the program is about to make the move to leave the Big 12 for the SEC likely within the next few years.

Yet, we can’t even come close to putting Sark in the conversation yet of the 10 or even 15 best head coaches in program history. He’s a long way off from that list. The same could be said for former head coaches such as Charlie Strong and Tom Herman.

Granted, Herman did at least finish up his run as the Texas head coach with an undefeated postseason record and one double-digit win season.

The factors were using to put together this list include winning percentage, postseason success, conference titles, national titles, and overall impact/influence that lasted in a positive sense for the program. Winning percentage and overall postseason success are the most important factors considered in the compiling of the list.
