10. Ed Price, 1951-1956

One of the head coaches that made this list with one of the worst winning percentages is Ed Price. That is largely due to the rapid decline the Longhorns faced in his last two and a half years with the program.

Texas was coached up by Price in the early-to-mid 1950s. And his run with the Longhorns started off much better than it finished. Price won two conference titles in the first three years of his tenure with the Longhorns.

Price wrapped up with a record of 33-27-1 as the Texas head coach. That came with one bowl win, two conference titles, and a couple of National title-contending seasons.

9. Eugene Van Gent, 1916

The head coach on this list for the Longhorns with one of the shortest tenures is Eugene Van Gent.
Van Gent coached up Texas solely during the 1916 season. He led Texas to post a record of 7-2 in 1916, winning the program’s first conference title. Texas also finished that season with a record of 6-1 in conference play.

That run saw the Longhorns sweep three of their biggest rivals in conference play, handily defeating the Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma Sooners, and Arkansas Razorbacks.

Van Gent also deserves a lot of credit for helping to build things up for William Juneau to go undefeated in 1917, which was one of the best seasons in the early history of the program.
