4. Dana X. Bible, 1937-1946

Dana X. Bible is definitely one of the most generically famous college football head coaches on this list. Obviously, Bible had a head coaching run that spanned well beyond his decade-long tenure with the Longhorns.

But Bible was certainly one of the most consistently successful head coaches in program history.

Bible finished up his decade-long run with Texas with a record of 63-31-3 (.665 winning percentage). He also led the Longhorns to five finishes in the top 15, which came in a span of the final six years of his time coaching Texas.

Texas claimed three conference titles with Bible as the head coach.

3. Blair Cherry, 1947-1950

We are getting to the real meat of this list. These are the head coaches that really put Texas on the map as one of the true blue bloods in college football.

Blair Cherry is one of those head coaches that had a short but sweet run with the Longhorns. Cherry spent four seasons with the Longhorns, going on to post an impressive record of 32-10-1 (.756 winning percentage). He was also the last truly dominant head coach for Texas before the real legend took over in 1957.

Moreover, Cherry led one of the very best Texas teams in 1947, as they finished up with one of the highest Simple Rating System scores in the program’s history.

He came very close to getting a couple of National titles for Texas and had two conference titles in his four seasons at the helm.
