The latest addition to the 2023 Texas football recruiting class for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff arrived this weekend with the underrated and polished three-star North Crowley linebacker S’Maje Burrell giving his pledge. Burrell officially announced his commitment to Texas on April 2.

That now brings the number of commits in the Longhorns 2023 class up to three with Burrell joining the mix over the weekend. Burrell is the first non-blue-chip recruit to commit to the Longhorns 2023 class. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t be a valuable part of this group once he arrives on campus.

Burrell is a big get for the Longhorns as he brings a polished and versatile skill set to the table that should be a great fit for the scheme under co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate. Both Kwiatkowski and Choate have lengthy track records of developing underrated recruits such as Burrell into all-conference-caliber linebackers.

Moreover, it’s good to see the Longhorns 2023 class really picking up some momentum in the midst of an important spring visit season. In the last few weeks alone, the Longhorns picked up two key commitments that will play along the defensive front coming out of the 2023 class.

That includes the likes of Burrell and the touted four-star C.E. King defensive lineman Dylan Spencer. Texas also holds a commitment from four-star Arlington-Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson in the 2023 class.

With Texas now up to three commits in the 2023 class, what’s next for Sark and his staff?

Here’s a look at who the next commitment could be in the Longhorns 2023 class after landing Burrell over the weekend.
