Jaden Hullaby

The most recent position change to note for the Longhorns is the former under-the-radar three-star recruit and sophomore athlete Jaden Hullaby. It looks like Sark and the Longhorns staff are bound to move Hullaby from the linebacker position to running back in spring ball.

It is interesting that the coaching staff is wanting to make this move given the lack of linebacker depth in spring ball and the abundance of talent at the running back position. Running back might be the deepest and most talented position group on either side of the ball for Texas in spring camp this offseason.

Meanwhile, linebacker is arguably the biggest position of need.

Yet, Texas continues to move players out of the linebacker position to other spots on each side of the ball. For example, Texas already moved former three-star recruit and sophomore Morice Blackwell from linebacker to defensive back this offseason.

Moreover, it sounds like Hullaby is going to fall fifth or sixth in the pecking order at running back if he sticks with this position group for the rest of the offseason and on into the 2022 season. It’s hard to see a world where he jumps the likes of Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, Keilan Robinson, Jonathon Brooks, and/or Jaydon Blue.

But Hullaby was most productive in high school playing at the running back position. If the coaching staff is content enough with the linebacker depth otherwise following the position change for Hullaby in the midst of spring practice, then this move could be better for him and the team as a whole.
