 Lance Heard, OT

Among the newest talented targets of the Longhorns 2023 class to watch this spring is the 6-foot-6 and 305-pound four-star Neville (LA) offensive tackle and former defensive lineman Lance Heard. Texas has found a real SEC-caliber lineman that brings an incredible level of versatility and physical tools to the table in Heard.

And fans on the Forty Acres should really be paying attention to the moves the Longhorns are making with Heard of late. By all accounts, he had a very successful visit with Texas over the weekend. It sounds like defensive line coach Bo Davis did a fantastic job with the pitch Texas made to Heard during his weekend visit to Austin.

Moreover, it also sounds like it is a great fit for the Longhorns to have Davis as Heard’s primary recruiter. While offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood is certainly a gifted recruiter and a proven coach in terms of developing players in his position group, Davis likely makes more sense here.

And he is certainly proving that given the fact that Texas is making some of the biggest moves of late in terms of any potential top schools emerging in Heard’s recruitment.

At this moment, it’s hard to know exactly which schools are at the top of the list for Heard. He’s played that pretty close to the vest during his recruitment. But it’s hard to say that Texas wouldn’t be at or near the top of the list if he released a narrowed-down group of finalist schools right now.
